I hope everyone is having a good summer so far. Thankfully, it hasn’t been too hot yet, at least not here in San Diego.
I have a couple of important bits of information to share with those of you who follow or support our work.
- Last month, I returned from a trip to Burundi and Nepal. I went to check on our existing projects, strategize with our national partners about future projects, and learn more about the needs of the people we serve in these countries. My trip was highly successful in several important respects. Therefore, rather than send you more lengthy emails about developments in Burundi and Nepal, I have decided to do a live presentation at 7 pm on Wednesday, June 29, 2022. The presentation will take place in a building called Lucas Hall on the campus of Christ Lutheran Church in La Mesa. The street address is 7929 La Mesa Blvd., La Mesa, CA 91942. Refreshments will be served.
This event is NOT a fundraiser per se, although I will be talking about the projected costs of some of the projects we want to pursue in Burundi and Nepal. We will hold our annual fundraiser in October or November.
- Our annual Christmas party for the children and families we serve in Mexico will be on December 11, 2022. Last year, we had to limit the size of the party because we did not have enough volunteers coming down with us to help with the entertainment, cooking and serving, gift distribution, and clean-up. I understand that people were hesitant to travel due to COVID-19, but it looks like this year, COVID-19 should not present a barrier to people joining on the trip. Last year we fed 1,000 and gave out 500 toys. I suspect that this year, we could be back to pre-pandemic attendance numbers. If I recall correctly, in 2019, we fed more than 1200 and gave out 800 toys.
Please let me know if you are interested in joining us for the festivities and work. The actual party is on Sunday, December 11. That means we will depart La Mesa on December 10 and return on December 12. We will stay again at the Santa Maria Hotel in San Quintin this year. If you have been on the Christmas trip with us in years past, you know what a special trip it is and what a great way it is to get into the Christmas spirit. If you have never been, you have been missing out on something very special. I encourage you to join us this year!
Thank you for all you do to support and encourage us!
